Filming of the new version will take place in Moscow. The release of the film is scheduled for the end of next – early 2027.

Alexander Domogarov Jr., Director The first time the idea to film the “Hotel at the Dead Mountaineer” Strugatsky appeared before the release of the first “Palma”. It was almost five years ago, and now we are in the filming of a complex and bright project with an acting ensemble of dreams. We’ve been casting for over a year. The famous actors went to take samples directly to the theaters. This helped to visualize the picture, to compose it directly on the auditions. It was very exciting and scary to start. A great responsibility to the fans of the book, to the audience. Our whole team is burning and wants to give a result so that the film for many years captivated the audience, and they found something new in it with each viewing. An important point: we are making a film based on the story of the same name, this is not a film adaptation. We have new lines, and some of the characters unfold differently than the Strugatskys. The message of the authors is the same. Our task is to give new emotions to the fans of the story. I hope we don’t disappoint.” Evgeny Tsyganov, performer of the role of Peter Glebsky: The film is based on the work of the Strugatsky brothers. The script departs from the book and is fantasized by the writers. The story itself is a fantasy in which the main character Peter Glebsky, a cracker, a detective who does not believe in the supernatural, falls, nevertheless, into some strange, crazy, but at the same time partially attractive world. It’s about how much you can believe in miracles. Probably, this is in a sense a fairy tale for adults with elements of detective, mysticism, some absurdity. It seems to me that the Strugatsky text is closest to the absurdists, primarily dialogue. As one of the greats once said, “The theatre of the absurd is the most realistic theatre, because our very life is absurd.” In the script, Glebsky is a man who has survived a family drama, a psychological trauma and lives through that trauma and drama. This adventure, which must be experienced, unravelling the case, should bring him back to life. We have a brilliant, strong cast. Everyone involved in this film is an artist who is very interesting to work with. We met someone on the set, we met someone for the first time. We are shooting a mystical detective, and for our director Sasha Domogarov it is something new and, I hope, for me it will also be something new.

Svetlana Khodchenkova, performing the role of Mrs. Moses: First of all, I was certainly interested in the script and the fundamental basis on which it was created. In the film, unlike the novella, Ms. Moses will have a new, extra line. The main thing is to find the missing element and move it to Mrs. Moses. That’s what I plan to work on during the filming, to search. The picture is a beautiful cast, I would even say brilliant. And an amazing meeting after 23 years with Alexander Baluev on the set. It’s a huge joy. And, of course, working with Yevgeny Tsyganov on the site is professional happiness every time.

Alena Mikhailova. The role of Brune: We have a great team, partners, director. Very interesting material, genre, fascinating style of shooting. In the story Strugatsky Brun not so much, and it is quite difficult to describe it. In the script of the film, this character is more. We just started shooting, and I don’t fully understand what she is, something is born right on the set. That’s the magic of the movie, every time it’s an experiment. I have no blanks, I come here and now I try to pass through myself and reproduce. Before the new year I bought glowing nunchucks, I wanted to prepare for my condition, feel to twist them. I do it almost every day now. I had a long break from shooting, and I’m now trying to figure out for myself who I am now and who this character is, what are the intersections between us. For me, there’s always a symbiosis between me and the character on the set, and it’s impossible to say who’s most influential. Something new always comes out of this mix.” Dmitry Lysenkov, performer of the role of Simon Simone: “I finally got to the role of a scientist!” There were teachers, music teachers. Poets and writers, too. Journalists, literary critics, doctors… Of the representatives of the intelligentsia, only scientists were lacking. It is also pleasant that the role of Simone is significantly expanded in comparison with the story of the Strugatskys. You know, I’m not a mystic, but I like a lot of coincidences. Twenty-three years ago, the Polish artist Jan Englert, being a member of the jury of the International Theatre Festival in Warsaw, presented me with the Grand Prix for the play “The Eldest Son”. And Ian Englert was the performer of the role of Simone in the very first TV play on “Hotel” in 1976. Then in 1979 a film was filmed at the Tallinn Film Studio. And although the Estonian artists played in Russian, they were re-voiced for the all-Union rental. So the role of Simone was duplicated by my beloved Oleg Borisov. These are the connections of history that are very dear to me when you start touching the material. I’m glad that finally, from endless fairy tales, our cinema makes a turn towards fiction. Technologically, there are already amazing opportunities for this. So I really hope that the project will be interesting, both for us at the production stage and for the audience at the premiere. Specifically about the role, I can say that I plan to embody the characteristic feature of Simone written by Strugatsky, which all the performers before me somehow ignored - his stupid laugh. Whether we can keep his unhealthy craving for mountaineering in the most inappropriate places for this will become clear in the scenery. I don’t know how much she’ll let me climb walls like a fly. That’s it.
